Welcome to our new trainees

We are delighted to extend a very warm welcome to our latest trainees, Dru Nicholson and Iona Dougall. Dru has started his traineeship in the firm’s Commercial Property Department and Iona’s first seat is in the Residential Property Department.

Dru obtained his LLB from the University of Glasgow in 2019 which included a year abroad at the University of Queensland, Australia. He then took a year out to travel which started well before the pandemic hit and then returned to the University of Glasgow, albeit virtually, to complete the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice. Away from work, Dru plays rugby for West of Scotland RFC and can often be found walking with his Labrador named Lars.

When asked how he is settling in, Dru said: “First and foremost, I’ve been made to feel extremely welcome from the get-go and I’d like to thank everyone in the firm for that.

“The designated induction days at the very beginning were particularly useful in allowing me to orientate myself with different aspects of the firm and the work I have been provided with since has been very interesting. I’m looking forward to gaining experience with the Commercial Property Department and progressing my legal career here more generally.”

Iona studied for both her undergraduate LLB and the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice at the University of Strathclyde. After completing her legal education in June 2020, Iona spent 9 months volunteering as a Seminar Assistant at Legal Services Agency in Glasgow and worked as a Paralegal at a small personal injury firm for a few months prior to starting her traineeship with MSHB.

We asked Iona how she has found her first few weeks at the firm. “In our first couple of days at the firm we were taken through an induction programme by training partner, Audrey. These two days were incredibly useful and gave us a clear insight into the traineeship programme as well as the firm culture.

“Everyone was really welcoming and reassuring in that if we are ever stuck on a piece of work there would always be someone to help. I am looking forward to the varied caseload in Residential Property as well as getting to know my new colleagues.”
