At Miller Samuel Hill Brown, we are committed to making a positive impact on our communities and the environment. We believe that by actively supporting the community, we can create a meaningful and lasting difference. We are delighted to announce the new challenges we will take on to raise essential funds for our charity partners, Glasgow City Mission and Glendrick Roost Animal Welfare Centre.
Glasgow City Mission is an extremely valuable and important charity that does amazing work to help vulnerable people in Glasgow that are experiencing homelessness and poverty and aim to reduce this in the city. They have a number of practical help for people affected by rough sleeping across the city. Their Overnight Welcome Centre has been running in Glasgow City Centre for 14 years and offers a comforting and safe space for rough sleepers during harsh months of winter. They have trained Housing Settlement Officers who follow up on all guests to work towards establishing appropriate accommodation in the future. The City Centre Project branch helps with guests who may be rough sleeping or staying in hostels and work with them to improve their physical and mental health as well as try to find them more suitable long term housing. The Child and Family Centre in Govan has been working with families since 1987 and offers playgroups, family support classes, advice for parents and after school clubs, holidays in order to support families and in doing so aims to break the cycle of poverty and give children the best start in life possible. This incredible charity is ran by a team of workers and volunteers and is dependent on charitable donations by the public.
That is why Miller Samuel Hill Brown is excited to raise money for such a worthy cause through a sponsored Zip Line across the Clyde and Great Scottish Run.
The Zip line will entail some very brave team members launching off the crane next to the Glasgow riverside Museum 100ft high in the sky on a zip line 1245ft long!
The Great Scottish Run begins in Glasgow's city centre and features a half marathon or 10k run through the city's green spaces and urban architecture. Fellow Glaswegians will be there to cheer you on as you tackle the course. Our Trainee Solicitor Gillian Irving will be running the half marathon, while Trainee Solicitors, Becca King and Holly Lafferty, will be taking on the 10k challenge.
Glendrick Roost Animal Welfare Centre is based near Aberfoyle and is a home for neglected, abused or unwanted animals that are in need of care. They welcome all kinds of animals, “from gerbils to Clydesdale horse!” to their refuge and look after each and every one with care and protection. They aim to advance the education of the general public to the principles and practice of animal welfare. Glendrick Roost Animal Welfare centre rescue and rehome animals and where possible, rehabilitate them back into the wild. They promote responsible pet ownership and report any suspected animal cruelty or neglect. Alongside caring for animals they offer tours and group visits to their sanctuaries. They depend on donations from the public and the work of volunteers.
Miller Samuel Hill Brown will be raising money for the Glendrick Roost Animal Welfare Centre by participating in the notorious Kiltwalk across Edinburgh. The Kiltwalk is the largest mass participation walking event with over 172,000 people taking part since 2016 and is the 5th biggest UK fundraising event. It is a great way to raise money for Glendrick Roost Animal Welfare centre while seeing the Capital and showing off our kilts!
