Extended licensing hours during COP26 a welcome boost for the hospitality trade

Licensing COP26 Image 500x333

As 30,000 delegates descend on Glasgow our hospitality sector clients are hopefully in for a much needed boost in trade after an incredibly challenging period. In recognition of the event and in support of the trade the Glasgow Licensing Board, have granted a general extension to licensed hours which permits all premises selling alcohol for on-sales an additional hour trading throughout the duration of COP26 (31 October to 12 November 2021 inclusive). This is an automatic extension that operators can take advantage of without the need to make an application.

Across the city our Licensing Team have been using their expertise to support clients with a number of events associated with the conference. At SWG3 we obtained consent on behalf of our clients for the New York Times Climate Hub. This is a full building take over at SWG3 with a 9 day programme of speakers for public and private events. The NYT Climate Hub has four key areas: The Think Tank, where a towering forest from artist Es Devlin is the immersive setting for debates, talks and workshops; The Forum, a marketplace of ideas for leadership; The Warehouse, the breakout zone for networking and free-flowing sessions, and The Yard, where guests can explore promising innovations, sustainable drinks and dining, film screenings and interactive exhibitions.

We are also delighted to see Martin Williams at Gaucho launch the Sustainable Steak Movement during COP26 and to support them in the licensing of their new Glasgow venue serving carbon neutral steaks. See here (Gaucho to open carbon-free steak restaurant... - The Caterer) for full details.
