City Set to Impress International Delegation

50 top lawyers from across Europe and the United States of America, are set to arrive in Glasgow tomorrow for the annual International Lawyers Network’s (ILN) European Regional Meeting.

During the conference, which is being hosted by Miller Samuel LLP and takes place from 10-13 September, the Glasgow based firm of solicitors will take the opportunity to promote to their international counterparts, the commercial and leisure opportunities available in Scotland generally and within the city in particular.

Michael Samuel, Chairman of Miller Samuel notes;

“As Miller Samuel is the only Scottish member of the ILN, the last time the event took place here was 12 years ago. Clearly in that time, much has changed for the better so this event offers a unique opportunity to demonstrate the positive changes, first hand, to an extremely influential group who represent the business interests of hundreds of global companies.”

Miller Samuel has arranged for the delegates to hear from a number of business leaders including David Watt, Head of the Institute of Directors in Scotland and Paul Rooney, City Treasurer with Glasgow City Council.

David Watt comments;

"I am delighted to have the opportunity to talk about Scotland's rich entrepreneurial spirit which is as alive today as it ever was, to highlight the positive, forward thinking approach of our business leaders and overall, to underline the fact  that Scotland is very much 'open for business’. Miller Samuel's involvement with ILN is a classic example of such vital leadership and innovation.”

Paul Rooney adds;

"As City Treasurer I would like to extend a warm welcome to all delegates to the Conference in Glasgow. Modern Glasgow is now recognised as a first class location for conferences and conventions, along with entertainment and sporting events, so I’m delighted to welcome the International Lawyers Network back to the city for the first time in over a decade. The reinvention of a decaying industrial centre, that was well underway when delegates last visited Glasgow, has continued at pace – resulting in the emergence of a vibrant and resilient international city that is committed to the economic and social wellbeing of its citizens. I hope everyone attending has an informative conference and enjoyable stay in our City.”

Based in New York, the International Lawyers Network helps its members keep pace with today’s global economy, through access to the tremendous strength and depth of the combined expertise of 5,000 lawyers in 67 countries on six continents. Each of the ILN’s member firms is international in outlook and staffed by highly trained senior lawyers, who are experts in a broad range of practice areas, including experience working successfully with international companies.

Commenting on the forthcoming Scottish events, Lindsay Griffiths, ILN’s Director of Global Relationship Management says;

“We’re thrilled that the leading firm of Miller Samuel LLP is hosting the ILN European Regional Meeting for 2015 in the vibrant and dynamic city of Glasgow. As well as enjoying the cultural heritage of this beautiful city, delegates from top law firms in the region and internationally will meet in what was recently voted the ‘friendliest city in the world’ as Miller Samuel’s guests to participate in thought-provoking business sessions and outstanding social sessions against the backdrop of this great city.”

The hashtag on social will be #ILNScots – this will keep you up-to-date and engaged with the event later this week.
